Sometimes you need a simple, cosy regency romance to curl up with. And sometimes you want to read something with dragons. For those times that you want a bit of both… well Scales and Sensibility could be what you are looking for.
This story follows Elinor, the eldest of the Tregaron sisters, as she tries to do her best to not be too much of a burden to her Aunt, Uncle and cousin after they’ve taken her in. However, that proves easier said than done because it turns out her cousin is quite horrible to everyone around and especially so to her newest accessory – a pet dragon. The book starts with Elinor being pushed to her breaking point and she ends up kidnapping said dragon and trying to strike out on her own. Her sensible plans quickly disintegrate when a carriage knocks her over into a ditch. And of course a handsome suitor comes out to apologize.
To avoid spoilers I won’t mention one because it is a cute story to follow along with. And there are plenty of twists and turns along the way. Some are more plausible than others.
I do wish the romance aspect of it was a bit more of the slow burn type of romance. There was a lot going on in the plot that I felt sometimes the romance was overshadowed and the pacing felt a bit off.
In the end, everyone got their due and I am looking forward to meeting Elinor’s sisters and reading about their adventures in the upcoming books. The next book, Claws and Contrivances, follows Rose and should be out later this year.
